Valpak & Rubbish Friends Litter Pick 2024 Report

In 2024, members of Valpak staff took part in a litter pick, in partnership with local environmental group Rubbish Friends Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The purpose of the litter pick was to not only collect and recycle litter in the local area, but also identify patterns of littering behaviour to drive targeted action, inspiring change.

During the event, we identified several major litter hotspots, including hedges, bushes, and drains, which had accumulated significant waste, particularly following recent heavy rainfall.

Takeaway packaging was the most common type of litter, often found far from its source. This highlights the need for targeted collaborations with fast-food chains to reduce litter, support their corporate social responsibility goals, and promote community clean-up efforts.

Looking ahead, we plan to work alongside Rubbish Friends to compare these results with future litter picks to identify trends in waste types and hotspots. This data will support the development of targeted awareness campaigns, such as educational talks in schools to inspire younger audiences and the placement of informative signs in key areas to raise awareness of the environmental impact of littering.
