The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is the first piece of compulsory
UK legislation that aims to control energy use amongst medium to large energy consumers.
For those affected it will involve:
- data collection and submission
- purchase of emission permits and permit trading
- 'compliance' submissions at year end
- criminal prosecution for non-compliance
All organisations (including both
the public and private sector) with half hourly electricity meters (HHMs) are
required to make a simple online information disclosure
at the beginning of each three year phase. The CRC will therefore include 20 to
35,000 large organisations at some level, including most Valpak members.
The Government has recently published the regulations, to which
participants will be required to comply from April 2010, and user guidance. All
advice on this website is based on these regulations.

participate in the CRC.
